Inside the OR: Intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM)

Matthew Farmer is an intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) technologist at Methodist Hospital. It's his job to monitor a patient's brain, spine, and nerves during surgeries where those systems are at-risk. "The reasons surgeons want us in the operating room is because they are working around very delicate structures and we can give them immediate feedback if or when there are changes to the patient's baseline."

How We Operate

As the credentialing coordinator, there are many times when the department is called upon to ensure a tech and reader are admitted to a hospital in order to assist a surgeon with a last-minute surgical case. By providing required documents in a timely manner, the patient benefits in the end by receiving the best possible care. This follows the Axis Mission Statement of ‘Patient First’.
