Healthcare costs reach $9.9K per person, remain historically modest

By Admin | December 28, 2016

The passage of the Affordable Care Act allowed nearly 20 million Americans to obtain health care; prior to the act, they were unable to.

However, rising health costs cannot be entirely blamed on this new group of people in the health insurance pool. Other factors contribute to the new average of per-person cost, which hovers close to $10,000.

Some of those factors include:

  • Consumer out-of-pocket spending, like copayments, deductibles and spending not covered by insurance, excluding premiums.
  • Cost of prescription drugs, the increase in generic prescriptions, increase in cost of name-brand drugs
  • Rise in cost of clinical and physician services
  • And others.
