DENVER – The Spine Journal (TSJ), the official journal of the North American Spine Society (NASS), has named “Clinical outcomes following elective lumbar spine surgery in patients living with dementia” as the 2025 Outstanding Paper Award winner. Authored by Patawut Bovonratwet, MD; Kaitlyn E. Holly, BS; Lingwei Xiang, MPH; Rachel R. Adler, ScD, RD; Clancy J. Clark, MD; Karen Sepucha, PhD; Samir K. Shah, MD; Dae Hyun Kim, MD, ScD; John Hsu, MD; Joel S. Weissman, PhD; and Andrew J. Schoenfeld, MD, MSc, the study examined more than 100,000 Medicare beneficiaries to assess outcomes following elective lumbar spine surgery in patients with and without dementia.
